Have a question? We’ve got you covered.

Why have I been advised to have a Pelvic Ultrasound scan with tubal patency?

You'll be advised to have this scan based on your medical history and Hertility test results, usually when you're trying to conceive or planning fertility treatment. Blocked Fallopian tubes are a common cause of infertility and can follow a previous ectopic pregnancy, pelvic infections such as pelvic inflammatory disease (PID), appendicitis, pelvic adhesions or severe endometriosis. Open (patent) tubes are needed for natural conception, ovulation induction and IUI, since the egg and sperm meet within the tube. The tubal patency test or a HyCoSy (hysterosalpingo-contrast-sonography) first uses fluid to first check the uterus and then checks whether the Fallopian tubes are open.
