Have a question? We’ve got you covered.

Can I test my hormones if I'm on hormonal contraception or taking HRT?

Yes. You can take Hertility's At-Home Hormone and Fertility Test while using hormonal contraception (such as the pill, implant, coil or injection) or while taking HRT.

Your Online Health Assessment will ask about your current contraception or HRT use so we can tailor your testing panel accordingly. It's important to answer accurately, as your responses determine which hormones we test for.

If you're on hormonal contraception or HRT, we can still measure key hormones like anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH), thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) and free thyroxine (T4), giving insight into your ovarian reserve and general hormone health. Depending on your assessment answers, we may also test testosterone and prolactin. However, we don't test luteinising hormone (LH), follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) or oestradiol, as these are directly influenced by hormonal contraception.

There are still good reasons to test now rather than wait: AMH can be temporarily lowered while on hormonal contraception, but a significantly low result can still flag a potential issue, letting you explore options with our experts sooner; an AMH result in the expected range can help you make informed decisions about conceiving, egg freezing or further testing; and if you want to understand your hormone levels without the influence of external hormones, we recommend you retest at least three months after stopping or removing your method of contraception.

Your personalised hormone panel is shown before checkout, once you complete your Online Health Assessment. Please note that if you purchase an At-Home Hormone and Fertility Test, collect your sample and receive your results, we're unable to offer a refund if you later decide you'd have preferred to test off contraception.
