Who might want to freeze their eggs?
Egg freezing is a way to preserve younger, healthier eggs now for a possible pregnancy later, and people choose it for two broad reasons. Medical (or "fertility preservation") reasons include being about to start treatment that can affect fertility, such as chemotherapy, radiotherapy or gender-affirming hormone treatment, or having a condition that may impact fertility. Elective (sometimes called "social") reasons apply if you're not ready to try for a baby yet but want to give yourself more options for the future.
It's worth knowing that in the UK, NHS funding is generally only available for egg freezing done for medical reasons; elective egg freezing is usually self-funded. For more on the process, see our blog "Egg Freezing Process Explained".
